Any adult patient who is the victim of violence, physical or sexual
Has completed a medical screening exam and is cleared for discharge from ED from a medical perspective
FNE process explained and patient wants this service
FNE cannot be completed in a timely fashion in the main ER (e.g. FNE not currently on site)
Any FNE case that includes
Intimate partner violence
Strangulation
Sexual Assault
Desires FNE but needs to metabolize intoxicant prior to exam
• Requires further workup, admission or transfer for injuries or other medical condition
• Altered mental status of unclear origin
• Needs Security monitoring for SI/HI/Grave dissability or behavioral issues
• Significantly Abnormal Vital Signs
Patient can change and shower while awaiting exam.
If sexual assault, please withohold vaginal swabs until exam unless clinically necessary. Same with Urinanalysis.
If patient can/needs to urinate, please collect dirty catch first void, label it and keep at bedside.
Any post-exposure prophylaxis as recommended by FNE or in provider judgement
Otherwise usual care, home meds, ok for PRNSs etc.
Disposition
FNE evaluation complete
Clinically Sober
• Significant injuries noted on FNE requiring admission or transfer
Other change in condition, vitals etc per provider judgement.
